The 15 March 2019Spain allowed the use of expired Venezuelan passports to process residence authorisations and aliens' permits, due to the difficulties Venezuelan citizens faced in renewing them at their country's consulates. However, the 19 November 2024After consular services were deemed to have improved, this measure was revoked, and a valid passport was again required for all immigration procedures.
In spite of this decision, reality has shown that many Venezuelan citizens are still unable to renew their passportsThis prevents them from regularising their situation in Spain. Faced with this situation, the authorities have decided to restoring the validity of expired passports so that Venezuelans can continue with their immigration procedures and obtain a foreigner's identity card.
From now on, expired Venezuelan passports will be accepted again in all migration procedures in Spain. This measure seeks to guarantee Venezuelan citizens' access to residency and regularisation rights, avoiding situations of vulnerability.
