Spanish Nationality

Ways of obtaining Spanish nationality:

It is obtained after having resided legally in Spain for a certain period of time, which varies according to the case:

10 years - General for foreigners

5 years - For refugees

2 years -For citizens of Latin American countries, Andorra, the Philippines, Equatorial Guinea, Portugal or Sephardic countries.

1 year - For persons born in Spain, married to a Spaniard, widowed by a Spaniard or children of Spaniards of Spanish origin.

Available for children of foreigners born in Spain and people with Spanish parents or grandparents.

Granted exceptionally by the Government, for reasons of national interest.

For children of Spanish parents, even if they were born outside Spain.

RESOLUTION PERIOD

The Administration has one year to resolve the application, although in practice it may take longer.
If there is no response within one year, you can file a contentious-administrative appeal to speed up the process.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

To be credited to legal and continuous residence in Spain for the required period of time.
Lack of criminal records in Spain and in the country of origin.
Passing the tests of the Cervantes Institute:
- CCSE (Constitutional and Sociocultural Knowledge of Spain).
- DELE A2 or higher (for non-Spanish speakers).
Present complete and valid documentation.
